Buddhist Meditation and Spiritual Support Group

The Buddhist Meditation and Spiritual Support Group (BMSSG) has met weekly since 1996. Six rotating leaders facilitate this group: Geoff Oelsner, Leslie Oelsner, Erica Estes-Beard, Scott Mashburn, Jon Medders, and Joshua Newman.  Each teacher is a practicing lay Buddhist, and each has a slightly different orientation to leading the group.

The BMSSG also hosts guest teachers from time to time. The group’s format includes meditation instruction, two meditation sessions, and free-ranging discussions based on participants’ questions and interests.  Teachers will also sometimes offer guided meditations, short Dharma talks, and readings.  Our primary style of meditation is Shamatha (“calm abiding”).

It is our goal to create an atmosphere of deep listening, mutual respect, and support. The group meets on Thursday nights from 7:30 – 8:30pm, at the Arkansas Yoga Center (AYC), located at 1949 N. Green Acres Road, in Fayetteville.  To ensure meditators silence and privacy, doors are locked at 7:40 pm, so please be prompt.  This site will be updated periodically to announce holiday closings. The Buddhist Meditation and Spiritual Support Group is free and open to both beginners and experienced meditators. Both Buddhists and non-Buddhists are welcome.
